Below Deck Mediterranean Season 9 Episode 7 Recap: Chain Reaction

Comments Off on Below Deck Mediterranean Season 9 Episode 7 Recap: Chain Reaction

The windlass is still not windlassing and Captain Sandy Yawn asks Bosun Iain Maclean to start the tender to take the guests ashore but it’s not working. Trishelle Cannatella and her husband have to fly to Paris for a dinner party dammit.

Sandy decides to leave the anchor in the ocean and come back for it. Who knew that this was even a possibility! She tells Iain that the tender wasn’t turned on correctly so it wasn’t because he drained the battery. Another mishap avoided by the blundering bosun.

Meanwhile, Chief Stew Aesha Scott is trying to deal with the drama between stews Bri Muller and Elena Dubaich and is going to have a good old talking to with them after the charter — if they ever get ashore.

The wind is amping up and Sandy wants to get the guests to the dock before it kicks up some more. After dropping the anchor, they finally move and it’s going to take about 2 hours but the guests are happy drinking their mimosas so all is well.

Poor Iain has his eyes set on Elena but she wants Joe “Eyebrows” Bradley, who, Bri has already hooked up with.

When asked if Iain has a chance with her, Elena flatly says, “No.” She’s a Ferrari while he’s a Toyota, is probably what she’s thinking.

Captain Sandy Yawn is disappointed in the docking

As the deck crew is trying to dock, Joe is taking too long tying the fenders and Sandy is noticing. “I have wind on my beam. I can’t keep holding this vessel off the dock. If this fender isn’t down, we can slam the dock,” Sandy tells the cameras.

They get the job done but Sandy tells Joe that his point man is fellow deckhand Nathan Gallagher, who has more experience than him. Joe’s eyebrows crawl away in shame.

After the boat is successfully secured, Sandy calls Iain to the bridge to ask him who he’s thinking of appointing as lead deckhand. He tells her that he has already appointed Joe, which Sandy is surprised at.

“I’ve docked this boat a few times. I’ve watched Nate work circles around him,” she tells him. “Joe’s a great talker so maybe that’s why you thought that. So I think you need to reassess the experience.”

Sandy tells the cameras that Iain made a mistake allowing Joe to take the lead and now she has her eyes on him. “In the future, always run it by me,” she warns Iain.

The Below Deck Med stews just can’t get along

The guests depart and hand Aesha a fat envelope which is hopefully not just singles. She calls Bri and Elena for a meeting and they all have a cockie.

“You guys lost your focus for a little bit because of your own personal issues but I think it’s just important to remember to say things with respect and kindness,” Aesha tells them.

Elena immediately gets defensive. “It bothers me if anybody’s putting out there that I’m disrespecting people. Like, that’s something I have a huge issue with.”

Below Deck Med Elena Dubaich

Bri jumps in to say that Elena didn’t consider her feelings, only to be told by her that they don’t have time to be coddled while working when they’re busy.

Aesha tries to delicately tell Elena that she needs to watch her mouth but the second stew is not hearing it. “So why don’t we just squash it now? From now on, let’s all just really watch how we speak to each other,” she tells the stews.

However, Elena just can’t keep her mouth shut. “And how we take things also.” Aesha just wants them to get along so they all do a fake group hug.

During the tip meeting, Sandy points out the strengths and weaknesses of the crew and then tells them they earned $25,000 for the last charter, which amounts to $2,000 each. Not bad for dry steak and a late docking which resulted in a missed flight.

The Loooooove Boat

Crew night out and Elena has put on a lacy bodysuit because she’s thirsty for some attention from Joe. She’s not the only one who’s thirsty. Deckhands Gael Cameron and Nathan are flirting despite her boyfriend pining over her.

Joe tells Aesha, “I’m in a kerpuffle,” which is his way of saying he’s caught between Bri and Elena. Aesha asks him to just take a night off from chasing after them. He assures her that he isn’t a player and hopefully, he keeps his word and they can all wake up in the morning without a regret hangover.

Poor Iain shoots his shot with Elena but she looks at him like a younger brother’s friend who has revealed his crush on her. It’s quite different from how Gael and Nathan eye-f*cking each other at the bar.

Elsewhere at the bar, Joe tells Bri that while he finds her hot, their boatmance is causing too much drama within the crew. “Exactly, so what can get worse?” Bri responds.

She tells him that they can still have fun but anytime he doesn’t want to hook up, he can tell her. “Right now, I don’t want to,” he says. “Okay, then that’s okay,” she replies. They shake on it.

Everyone has gone to bed except for Gael and Nathan. We all know nothing good happens after midnight and they prove it by making out in the stairwell. Gael’s boyfriend is not going to like this.

Captain Sandy Yawn needs her clothes, dammit

The next morning, Captain Sandy is trying to schedule their anchor delivery when she gets an alert that there’s a wildfire a couple of hours away from the yacht and she wants to move them away from it as soon as they pick up their charter guests.

The next charter is a short one so this should be easy for Chef Jono Shillingford who has been fumbling in the galley.

Gael feels guilty for cheating on her boyfriend, which is made worse by him texting her constantly for attention. “Maybe you guys need a break,” Jono tells her. “You’re here and he’s there and that you cannot change.” He’s like the Gael whisperer.

“Do you want to be with him?” he asks her. She gives him a roundabout answer that’s definitely not a firm, “Yes.” Jono tells her to have an honest convo with her boyfriend and go from there.

While Gael is contemplating her life, Sandy tells Bri that she gave her the wrong laundry. It shouldn’t be this difficult when all of the captain’s clothes are labeled.

“I’m not going to fire her for losing my shirt. But this, we need to correct,” Sandy tells the cameras. She then storms into the laundry room and tells Elena that she was given someone else’s clothes.

Elena calls Bri to the laundry to tell her Sandy is looking for her clothes. “They were in that laundry machine,” the third stew says. Mystery solved — or not.

The cap is still missing a shirt and they have 20 minutes until the guests come on. Now she’s mad. “Why is it so hard to get my clothes back,” she tells the crew while they’re eating. “This is the last time.”

They all scramble to find Sandy’s shirt and Bri manages to locate it in another cabin. “You’ve got to fix this on this charter,” the salty seawoman warns her.
