Below Deck Mediterranean Season 9 Episode 14 Recap: New Kid On The Dock

After a season full of mishaps within the interior during Season 9 of “Below Deck Mediterranean” (mainly Bri Muller messing up laundry), Captain Sandy Yawn has finally procured a fourth stew. Carrie O’Neill walks off the dock and into the yacht, all blond and Scottish and happy.

She has tons of experience and is also a mixologist, so Chief Stew Aesha Scott will have some real help.

Carrie is just in time for a crew night out and she immediately offends Elena Dubaich when she calls her heels, “stripper shoes.” Forget about working a pole, Elena can’t even get off the dock in her 8-inch heels and has to waddle like a duck.

Of course, Joe Bradley tries to charm Carrie during dinner but he would flirt with a rock if it had legs. This isn’t the only thing prickling Elena’s nerves. The new stew and Aesha are getting along swimmingly. She tells the cameras, “I’ve earned my position on this boat and if my position should be threatened at all, I’m just not going to back down.” The claws are already out.

Nathan Gallagher lashes out after a loss

Nathan Gallagher has learned that his friend Tommy has died from cancer so he’s doing shot after shot. They all get in the van and Gael Cameron jokingly tells him to get in the other car. He tells her,”Shut the f*ck up,” which Aesha admonishes him for but he doesn’t care.

Gael apologizes for her boyfriend and Aesha hops in the back to comfort her. She asks Nathan what’s going on and he finally reveals that his friend died. She comforts him on the dock as he cries.

He shares in a confessional, “My mom was going through tests for cancer recently. She’s been cleared now, thankfully.” Nathan says that his mom didn’t even tell him and he had to find out through his sister. He confesses that he tends to push people away during hard times, just like the rest of his family members.

Aesha has told Joe about Nathan’s friend so he tries to comfort him. “It’s life, brother. We’re just on a journey, but if that journey has to get interfered, well then it happens.”

“It’s f*cking horrible,” Nathan tells him. “I’ve got your back,” Joe replies.

The next charter guests are Murphy and Beth LaSelle and three other couples celebrating their 15th anniversary. Hopefully, Chef Jono Shillingford doesn’t make a chocolate chip cookie cake for them like the previous charter.

Bri Muller sucks at laundry and water is wet

It’s eight charters in and Bri still sucks at laundry. Joe only has one polo so it’s not just his game that stinks at this point. He has no choice but to tell Aesha because deodorant only goes so far.

Aesha tells Bri that she found Joe’s polo in Bosun Iain Maclean’s room and is pretty much like, why can’t you just do laundry? Even if Bri were to do laundry for one, things would go missing. Does the crew need those washable name tags like preschool kids?

Captain Sandy tells Bri, “You are still f*cking up in the laundry. What is it?” A sad tear rolls down her face.

“I just feel like the system isn’t working for me,” Bri answers. She tells Sandy that color-coordinating the clothes will work better for her, rather than names.

Sandy doesn’t want to crush Bri’s soul anymore than it is so she’s not going to fire her. Also, there are only two charters left. If the crew are walking around stinky and wearing each other’s undies, it’s Sandy’s fault. You can lead a horse to the laundry room but you can’t make it sort clothes properly.

The Below Deck Med crew struggles with hierarchy

Gael is annoyed that Joe seemingly nitpicks at her while he thinks that he’s just trying to lend his wisdom as the lead deckhand. Meanwhile, Elena gripes about having Carrie on board and having to show her around the boat. She doesn’t know why they need a fourth stew to begin with.

Maybe it’s because she and Bri don’t allow Aesha to take a break or eat sitting down? Bri isn’t as bitter and hopes that Carrie can help her with the laundry because boy, she needs it.

Someone has to go in the water with the guests and Gael says Joe offered to earlier. He calls her a “princess,” which previously rubbed her the wrong way when she made the mistake of not turning off the hot tub valve and Nathan covered up for her.

‘You’re a prick,” she shoots back. “At least we both know where we stand,” Joe says. Gael is pissed off and walks away.

In the interior, Elena passively-aggressively asks Aesha if Carrie is going to be on service. Aesha informs her that the new stew is going to be everywhere to help out.

Elena says she feels like the third wheel and when Aesha says she wants to see how good Carrie is on service.

“Okay, that’s perfect as long as like, I don’t feel like I’m being demoted,” Elena answers. “No, but at the end of the day, that’s also my call, you know. So I’ll put her where I see fit,” Aesha tells her. “But I’m not demoting you. I’m just putting her on service.”

Elena quips, “No worries!” but there are a lot of worries. Particularly on Aesha’s part who doesn’t have the time to coddle her stew’s ego.
