Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 Episode 3 Recap: Let The Bottles Hit The Floor

Daisy Kelliher and Gary King are still arguing from “Below Deck Sailing Yacht” Season 2 and they either have to just get married or never talk to each other again. There is no in-between.

Gary doesn’t want to fight, which is every husband’s attitude. He’s already halfway there and is basically telling Daisy, “Yes, Dear.” That somehow placates Daisy and they drunkenly make up — for now.

Chef Cloyce Martin wants to divvy up the dinner bill but Daisy tells him that they usually take turns paying. Cloyce thinks it’s unfair because everyone had five drinks while he didn’t. “It’s fine,” Daisy slurs.

Except Cloyce thinks it’s not fine because he’s got bills to pay and wants to retire by the time he’s her age right now. He can’t imagine seeing himself working on a boat at 37 years old, flirting with a man-child, and chain-smoking Parliament Lights.

“We made $1,400 today. This is how we do things,” Daisy insists. “He’s 22, he doesn’t understand how that works,” Gary says. Maybe at 22, Cloyce is smarter than everyone else in their 30s and doesn’t want to piss away his hard-earned money. Still, Cheffy needs to suck it up this time and be a team player. No one likes a cheapo.

After everyone goes to bed, Cloyce and Gary have a bonding moment. The chef is doing something with some peppers, eggplants, and a potato while Gary shucks some oysters. They pour a nice glass of wine and Keith joins them outside. It’s a nice bro bonding experience, which Gary calls “crew bondage.” Wrong term, bru.

The Below Deck Sailing Yacht crew needs to step it up

The next “Below Deck Sailing Yacht” Season 5 charter guests are a group from Texas, with the primary Amy celebrating her 60th birthday. The only dietary restriction is Stephanie, who is gluten-free. Cloyce is relieved.

There’s a bit of tension when Daisy asks the stews who wants to do dinner service and Diana Cruz raises her hand. “That means I have to do cabins,” Danni Warren groans. “Remember, I have to do cabins in the morning too,” she tells Daisy. Um, you’re a stew. Housekeeping is part of your job.

Danni has another huffy moment when Daisy asks her to decorate the table and tells her to make it “tacky.” Danni is artistic and immediately has a visceral reaction to the word “tacky.”

Meanwhile, deckhand Emma Crouch is having a ciggy and looking at her phone while the tender is banging against the side of the yacht while the charter guests are aboard. She either doesn’t hear or cares not at all.

Gary hears the noise and rushes over. It turns out that Emma didn’t tie the bow line properly so the tender was loose and now there’s scratches all over the hull.

When Daisy checks on Danni’s tablescape, she finds her freaking out about the “tacky” decorations because she thinks it’ll besmirch her stewardess name. Daisy clarifies that when she said “tacky,” she meant “over-the-top.” Crisis one averted.

Daisy Kelliher vs. Cloyce Martin

As the stews are clearing, Daisy asks Emma to tell Cloyce to start plating dessert. Emma informs her that the desserts need to be in the oven for eight minutes, which puts a damper on the timing.

There’s a bit of a communication issue because Daisy was expecting dessert to be ready ASAP while Cloyce didn’t get the radio from her that they were clearing dinner plates.

“Where do you think all these big giant plates came from,” Daisy tells the cameras. “You have a radio, ask me.”

After all their food is digested, the charter guests finally get a bowl of yummy bread pudding and they’re happy.

However, Daisy is still seething from the mishap and tells the cameras, “Cloyce, back the f*ck up. Do not think that I’m going to be taking this sh*t. F*cking own it.” It seems Daisy has to own not communicating to Cloyce that she was clearing dinner and not put the onus on Emma.

The Below Deck Sailing Yacht crew keeps messing up

Gary has asked Emma to set up the inflatable rafts for the guests but to his frustration, it hasn’t been done. “I don’t think Emma’s taking this seriously at all. I specifically asked her to inflate these and tie them all together and it’s not even 50% done,” he vents to the cameras.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht deck team

For some reason, Cloyce has joined the crew and guests to their island excursion, even though he has to prep the next meal. He’s not even in the crew’s wet uniform and is standing around in his dad swim trunks.

Gary suggests taking him back but Cloyce is living his best life in the Spain waters. Captain Glenn Shephard notices that the chef is missing and has no idea he’s galivanting on a private island. When he finds out through Gary on the radio, Glenn says, “What? What the f*ck’s going on?”

“He’s not out there to have fun. He needs to be ready to serve at four,” Glenn yells. For the soft-spoken Canadian to get this mad, Cloyce seriously messed up.
