Real Housewives of Potomac Season 9 Episode 5 Recap: Blast From Everyone’s Past

If there’s one thing “Real Housewives” producers love, it’s a cliffhanger. The last episode of “RHOP” Season 9 ended with Mia Thornton recounting a salacious girls’ night out with Karen Huger accidentally revealing through a butt-dial that she did not end up in bed with her husband Ray Huger.

Everyone’s mouth opens in shock and Karen’s first response is, “I did not do that. Was I drunk?” Girrrl. Mia’s plan to get back at Karen for making her friend Jacqueline Blake cry has worked.

The Grande Dame is flustered and says, “Was … did… was this the night we were having…” The other housewives confirm that they were drinking tequila and Karen announces that she was driving but pulled over and called a driver.

However, according to Mia, Karen had called her that night on her way home while driving. Hmmm. The other housewives ask why Mia is bringing this up now and she admits it’s because Karen went after Jacqueline.

Karen tries to defend herself by saying, “What makes, I think, me an okay person is I own the good and the bad and the indifferent about me.” So far, fans of “RHOP” have yet to see Karen owning her DUI and have only watched her tell cast members that she expects them to have her back. Okurr Kuurrrn.

Wendy Osefo is 40

The “RHOP” cast wants to go to bed but they’re waiting for the clock to strike midnight so that they can ring in Wendy Osefo’s birthday. Everyone’s just lounging on the sofa scrolling through their phones. Do people need a shot or maybe an espresso martini? They’re all acting like they’re 80.

It’s finally 12:00 am and the ladies are up and dancing, celebrating Wendy’s birthday. Perhaps they were just conserving their energies because now there’s twerking and glasses clinking.

Wendy shares in a confessional that she was nervous about turning 40 but her mother reminded her how much she had accomplished so far.

“First, being a professor at one of the most acclaimed universities in the country, becoming an author, acquiring multiple degrees, a mother to three beautiful children, I married my soulmate, the fine Nigerian Idris Elba,” she lists.

“And at 40, I have accomplished every single thing I ever wanted to,” Wendy adds. “And for that, I’m blessed.”

Jacqueline Blake gives Mia Thornton advice about Gordon

The next day, Mia asks Jacqueline how she’s doing after the Karen drama. “Karen is just like, she’s a tough bag,” Jacqueline answers.

Enough about Jacqueline. Mia starts talking about her ex Gordon Thornton and how every time she leaves to go somewhere, he needs something from her. She shares that he got upset about a past Instagram post featuring her current boyfriend, Inc.

Gordon told Mia, “I can’t remember a time when I felt so hurt and so used in my life.” Mia had responded, “Oh Gordon, you know I have not used you. I love you. Things just became too challenging and you know the reason why but I have not left your side.”

Jacqueline validates her feelings but then tells the cameras, “Mia is very, very spoiled and Mia likes Gordon to wait on her hand and foot and he’s done that since the first date and he still does it today.”

Mia admits that she still tells Gordon she loves him, to which Jacqueline replies, “You need to stop saying that. For somebody who’s not over you yet, you need to tread very lightly with the words that you say because he wants a second chance.”

Gordon also thinks that Mia is using him but according to her, he tells her how grateful he is that she’s taking care of him. Jacqueline agrees and points out how Mia is the breadwinner of the two. This is why we all need sidekicks.

Jacqueline Blake throws some shade at Karen Huger

During breakfast, the “RHOP” cast asks what’s on the agenda for the day and Mia tells them to be ready by 1:30 pm so that they can all go visit one of the very first doctor’s offices she opened in the area.

Everyone looks at each other like, “WTF is happening,” but Mia is dead serious. What happened to the days of getting thrown off a camel in Morocco or chucking glasses in Amsterdam?

To top it off, the doctor’s name is Dr. Migdadi, not to be confused with McDaddy. Gizelle Bryant calls Wendy to wish her a happy birthday and the ladies comment on how far the two Housewives have gone. Wendy talks about peace and forgiveness and then Jacqueline brings the shade.

“When you hold grudges and you don’t let go of things, that’s only going to keep you bitter, nasty, and mean,” she tells the group vaguely.

Stacey asks, “Are you talking about Karen?” Jacqueline says she’s not but everyone knows she is. Karen just tries to brush it off but Kiearna Stewart steps in and calls out Mia for bringing up something that happened three years ago.

Mia asks Kiearna about her “drug dealer boyfriend,” who then retaliates by referencing Mia’s stripper past. Then, Mia calls Kiearna “stitches,” referring to last season when she got into a fight with Ashley Darby’s friend Deborah Williams and got hurt.

Ashley asks Kiearna if she does indeed have a scar from the altercation and the new housewife goes berserk. “You all of people asking me about a goddamn scar,” she yells. “Don’t ask me about my scar! Don’t ask me about it!” Kiearna screams hysterically. Ashley just wanted to know what cream Kiearna used to treat the scar, but okay!

Karen Huger gets her revenge on Jacqueline Blake

Karen has been waiting for the right moment to pounce on Jacqueline after getting called out for drunk dialing. She brings up Jacqueline’s baby daddy Patrick aka PP and how he supposedly has 25 convictions.

Jacqueline explains that he was investigated within the police department, lost his position on the police force, but ended up with another role as an officer. She argues that this happened over six years ago.

“Everybody has a past,” Ashley says. This causes Wendy to say, “Oh, now everybody has a past.” Everyone starts arguing and Karen’s forehead veins are popping out as she tells Jacqueline that her attempt to defame her has failed. “I’m well-respected in this group,” she yells.

“Okay, with your two DUIs,” Jacqueline replies as she walks away. “I don’t have two DUIs, dingbat,” Karen counters. She accuses Jacqueline of “defamation” but then Wendy jumps in and points out that she called Kiearna’s ex-boyfriend a drug dealer. There’s a lot going on here.

Everyone’s yelling and Wendy is telling Ashley that her booty is hanging out, who responds by twerking. Stacey is like an old grandma and reminds everyone that it’s Wendy’s birthday. “Show some respect!” she scolds the group.

Stacey tries to be the peacekeeper and asks Mia, Ashley, and Jacqueline why they’re going after Karen. They just want Karen to own up to her DUI and Mia shows Stacey the receipts. “This is what you’re defending. Is that what you stand for?” Mia asks.

Stacey has no idea that’s what Karen was charged for and goes to talk to her. She says that she heard Karen had admitted to needing rehab for alcoholism. “Should I be worried about you?” Stacey asks. Karen gets that defensive look on her face and her mole quivers in rage. To be continued…
