Summer House Season 8 Episode 3 Recap: Elephant on the Beach

Comments Off on Summer House Season 8 Episode 3 Recap: Elephant on the Beach

The second episode of “Summer House” Season 8 ended on a total sh*t show note, with Lindsay Hubbard accusing Carl Radke of doing coke the night before. The next morning, they’re still arguing.

“You were treating me like sh*t last night,” Lindsay says. “Why did you say, ‘I’m sober right now?’ Why not say, ‘I am sober?'”

“I am f***ing sober,” Carl tells her. “Then why say, ‘Right now?'” Lindsay points out. “In that moment, you were not. You drank all day long and were rude and aggressive to me when I’m trying to be supportive. You shut me down and tell me I’m fighting you,” Carl responds. He storms out and tells Lindsay to get some rest, even though he means, “Feel my wrath, you inebriated curmudgeon!” Lindsay takes a nice nap-nap.

Amanda Batula is laying in bed with Kyle Cooke saying, “Look at that cute butt. Look at that cute little butt.” Unfortunately for Kyle, she’s talking about their dog. Kyle doesn’t even look bothered because he’s so used to it. “Wanna go potty?” she asks later and it isn’t clear if she’s talking to Kyle, Reese, or Ryder.

Lindsay Hubbard is angry

Carl and Gabby Prescod hash out what happened the night before. “I think we’re a little … we just need to kinda simmer a little bit,” Carl tells her. He explains that Lindsay felt weird not being in the car with the other girls and told him last night, “Just wait, you’ll see. It’s gonna be a problem.” He and Kyle tried to reassure her that everything would be okay but Lindsay said, “You’re attacking me.” Lindsay is activated.

Over breakfast, Lindsay tells Danielle Olivera that Kyle was being the aggressor, which gave her PTSD. Flashback to when they first started dating and Carl was being aggro.

In a confessional, Lindsay admits that she didn’t think Carl wasn’t sober the night prior and should have “used a lot more delicate words in that moment” but tells the camera, “I’m like, so taken aback by his aggressiveness in this moment and I’m trying to figure out, like, where it’s coming from and he is treating me in a way that is like, startling … It’s very much old Carl.”

Carl Radke is sad

Kyle tells Carl outside away from prying ears that he found it sus that Lindsay asked Carl the night before, “What are you on?” Kyle adds that Lindsay doesn’t take accountability for her actions. “Last night was unacceptable.” Carl doesn’t have anything to say because he knows Kyle is right.

Kyle reminds Carl that his wedding with Lindsay is just a few months away. “I mean, does it freak you out?” Carl’s response isn’t surprising. “It scares me and it’s … it’s sad. It makes me sad more than anything.”

For once Kyle is the voice of reason and asks Carl if that’s the life he’s envisioning. Carl just gives a sigh and has no answer.

As if life-changing conversations just didn’t happen in the house moments prior, the group asks if everyone did Jello shots and then gets ready to get drunk at the beach. It is the Hamptons after all, where people sweep things under the rug and drink their problems away. When in Rome.

Kyle asks Ciara and West Wilson if they’ve hooked up yet but Ciara says no. “He did, however, bite my arm.” That’s a promising start to a long and lasting relationship. Ciara is not keeping her hopes up, however, which is not surprising after Austen Kroll. West is funnier though, so he has that.

Beach day

Everyone’s at the beach. Jesse Solomon sprays Carl’s back with sunscreen because he’s the only one tall enough. Kyle looks on jealously.

Paige DeSorbo reveals to the girls (minus Lindsay) that the night before, Jesse Solomon got a bit too familiar and put his hand on her knee, which Craig will apparently throw hands over. Paige is more concerned that Craig won’t get along with the “Summer House” friend group than the fact that another guy is sweating her.

Danielle tells Lindsay that she and Carl had a good chat about life. Lindsay is totally happy to hear that others are connecting with her life partner. “He’s also trying to figure himself out. Give him grace,” Danielle tells Lindsay, who does that laugh/smile thing people do when they’re about to annihilate someone. If this were a cartoon, steam would be coming out of her ears.

In a confessional, Lindsay reveals that while she’s been earning money being an influencer, Carl has struggled to figure out what he wants to do. Options included starting a podcast and being a motivational speaker. “He hired a career coach for six months. Six months, $20,000 for this career coach. So yeah, like, it’s been a journey,” Lindsay says.

Things are all la la la with Lindsay and Danielle until Lindsay points out that her friend hasn’t RSVPed to her wedding. “I did want to ask you, do you actually want me there?” Danielle asks. Lindsay says she does and now the two are finally friends again.

Carl Radke and Lindsay Hubbard make up

Carl and Lindsay talk on the beach and it’s awkward. Carl acknowledges that they both had anxiety coming into the house this season. She brings up how he was mean and snippy toward her the night before and asks if she did anything to upset him.

“It hurts to hear that, ‘Are you on drugs? Are you this or that?’ It seemed like it came from a place of like, you really, really, really thought I’m like, lying to you and saying that I’m not sober but you were not sober,” Carl says.

“I have PTSD from old Carl sometimes. I really do. Old Carl, like to me, came out last night. And I’m like trying to search for where it came from and why,” Lindsay explains. Carl admits he’s scared of “Old Carl” too and that he sympathizes with how she feels. They make up and kiss with tongue, which apparently, they haven’t done in a while.

Only some of the Summer House cast goes out

A hodgepodge of the group goes out, which includes West, Ciara, Amanda, Carl, and Danielle. Amanda doesn’t miss Kyle at all. West and Ciara prove they’re soulmates when he asks the group why people started the cheers tradition. Ciara says, “It’s because if your enemy poisoned your drink, you had to clink. Some of it spills into the other and you both drink it at the same time and you look at each other.” West is like, wow this girl is hot and smart even though last season Ciara didn’t know what a lobotomy was.

Back at the house, the rest of the gang play a game where they guess who the person is written on a sticky note on their forehead. Carl, who looks like an Among Us skin and has Ciara’s name on his forehead asks, “Am I a bitch?” Paige answers, “Yes.” He says, “That doesn’t narrow down anything,” which is pretty astute.

The house people are all having fun until they realize one of the dogs is missing. Kyle looks over hill and dale until Lindsay finds Reese in one of the bedrooms. Kyle is relieved that Amanda won’t kill him –tonight. It’s because she’s busy fondling Carl’s arms.

“Can we talk about how we have Carl here tonight?” Amanda tells the group while weirdly stroking Carl’s arm. That’s not weird at all, says Danielle’s face.

Ciara asks Carl how he feels being with someone who drinks and gets big mad and he says they go to couples counseling and try to make things work. “I will say, we always come back together,” he says. It seems he spoke too soon.

Lindsay Hubbard throws Danielle Olivera under the Hamptons jitney

At dinner, Paige and Lindsay’s beef comes up. Paige is still mad that Lindsay supposedly told the press that Craig got kicked out of Kyle and Amanda’s wedding for being sh*t-faced drunk. In a shocking moment, Lindsay tells everyone, “It was Danielle.” Even Paige’s bun looks shocked. For some reason, Paige isn’t upset at Danielle, probably because she doesn’t want to give Lindsay the satisfaction.

The partyers come home and turn on various smoke and sound machines. Amanda is trying to sleep and this is giving her more reason to hate on Kyle. A smoke alarm goes off. Jesse Solomon farts on Kyle and West’s face. They think it’s funny because they don’t foresee getting pinkeye. Kyle and West fall asleep together, which could have been cute except they still have their shoes on, which is unacceptable for grown men.

Back in New York City…

Ciara and West go on a date in the city. West’s mustache is sweating. They order deviled eggs, which is so not an NYC thing. Ciara comments on West’s see-through shirt and his visible nipples, which she approves of.

West doesn’t think Ciara is outdoorsy but she tells him she’s been a Girl Scout since kindergarten and has camped all across the states. This is surprising not just to West, but to “Summer House” viewers who have watched Ciara literally lay in bed every season.

Lindsay and Carl have a date in the city where they call each other “babe” and talk about their future. They drink mocktails while Carl talks about possible job opportunities for him. “What do you wanna do?” Lindsay asks. “Because, like, you always, like, say what you want to do but there’s not like a lot of movement,” she tells him.

She tells Carl that she’s attracted to ambitious men whom she wants to get busy in a bathroom with, of all places. Carl asks her if she wants to go to the bathroom with him and she tells him no, which says something about his ambition, or lack thereof. He tells her that he’ll have a plan by the end of the summer, which she’s down with. He mentions his idea to open up a non-alcoholic sports bar but Lindsay’s not too keen on the idea. “I don’t want that for our future family,” Lindsay says as she slurps her mocktail. Carl can’t argue back because he has been sufficiently shut down.
