Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 Episode 9 Recap: Out, Damned Spot

The latest episode of “Below Deck Sailing Yacht” Season 5 continues after Gary King chucked a lollipop at Davide Morosi’s face and he bleeds all over the white sofa.

Stews Danni Warren and Diana Cruz start freaking out and they call their chief stew Daisy Kelliher over. Too bad she’s drunk as a skunk and can’t bring herself to give a chamois.

Gary refuses to take responsibility and basically blames Davide for getting in the way of the lollipop and then daring to break his skin with the hard candy.

When Daisy sees all the blood, she goes into instant denial, like when a mom sees her toddler covered in flour but then ignores it. “Put some Vanish on it and we’ll let it sit overnight,” she tells the stews. Mommy just wants to drink some more wine.

Meanwhile, Gary is the older brother who broke his sibling’s arm by wrestling with him and then gaslights him for having fragile bones. “Why did you f*cking spill blood on the couch?” he asks Davide. If he could blame the lollipop, he would.

The stews are left to deal with the mess and because Diana is gagging at the sight of blood, it’s up to Danni to spray the sofa with Vanish.

Under their drunken haze, the cast all hope that they’ll wake up tomorrow and the Vanish will be true to its name.

Captain Glenn Shephard is big mad at Gary King

The next morning, Daisy somehow remembers that she’s responsible for the sofa and wakes up at the crack of dawn to do damage control.

She’s trying to wet vacuum the blood out when Captain Glenn Shephard comes in. Daisy tells him what happened and he is furious. “What the f*ck is this?” he asks. He tells her to put on her uniform and then wakes up the rest of the crew.

Everyone convenes in the saloon and Glenn says, “I’m f*cking really disappointed to come up and see f*cking something like that after a crew night off. I mean, this is a massive f*ck up.” This is the most Glenn has ever cursed so they should be scared.

Glenn asks how the mess happened and Gary says he doesn’t remember. Either he blacked out or he’s lying but still, come on man! Take responsibility for something.

What Glenn is pissed about is that they all knew the blood was on the sofa but no one made an effort to clean it. They were all supposed to go visit caves but guess what, no one’s going now except for Glenn.

He orders everyone to clean the boat and if they do a good enough job, maybe he’ll let them go to the beach club later. Ta-ta!

Gary King does his apology tour

While the “BDSY” crew is cleaning the yacht, Gary finally grows a conscience and decides he’s at least partly to blame. “Hey, guys, I’m sorry about this,” he tells Daisy and Davide as they’re trying to get the blood out of the cushions.

He then goes up to Danni and says, “This couch thing was a complete f*ck-up and I take full responsibility. We took it one step too far and I’m sorry that everyone has to pay the price of Davide and my stupidity.”

The next stop is Diana but she’s not buying his mea culpa. “F*ck you and your fake apology. He does whatever he wants without like, thinking about anyone,” she tells the cameras.

Glenn comes back on the boat after his excursion and calls everyone for a meeting. Just like a disapproving parent, he asks, “What have we learned?”

“No f*cking around inside,” says a remorseful Gary. Davide chimes in, “Respecting the boat even when we are like, not working.”

Because Glenn is Canadian and a nice person, he decides the crew is punished enough and allows them to go to the beach club. “Thank you,” they all tell Daddy.

Daisy Kelliher tries to give Gary King some advice

The “BDSY” crew have the time of their lives at the beach club where Danni finally reunites with her hunky Anthony. She’s finally getting some male attention and she’s like a succubus ready to seduce her new target.

In the car ride home, Gary is obviously hammered and continues to roast Danni in front of Anthony. She thinks he’s just jealous because another guy that’s not him is getting female attention. She’s probably not wrong.

Back at the boat, Danni and Anthony frolick and play until they make their way to the guest master bedroom, and the next day, he does the walk of shame. “Thank god, finally,” she says after getting the validation she’s been seeking thus far.

When Gary wakes up in a haze, Daisy tells him that he was getting on Danni’s case the night before, which of course, he doesn’t remember.

“Like, you’re really good fun and then you just get to a point where you just decide that you hate everyone. I think you were doing it to Danni in the taxi as well,” she says. “I don’t know when to stop,” he answers.

“Honestly, I don’t like blacking out but my problem is, I can’t have one subtle drink. I drink to get drunk,” Gary tells the cameras. “It’s something I need to learn to control because it actually changes who I am, for the worse. And I realize that’s a problem but then why do I keep doing it?”

The BDSY crew gets a new deckhand

After Glenn fired Emma Crouch, he was able to get a new deckie and it’s someone we’re all familiar with — Chase Lemacks from “BDSY” Season 4.

With Chase coming on board, Daisy needs to figure out the new cabin arrangements because she’s left with an empty slot but she doesn’t want to room with him.

However, she can’t switch the 3-bunk cabin around to fit her and her stews so in the end, she decides to put Chase in with Keith Allen and Cloyce Martin, and have Gary room with her. Bad choice.

As Chase comes aboard, Diana and Danni get excited because he’s tall and has tattoos. Little do they know that he’s kind of dorky.

However, they’re both blinded by height and being stuck on a boat with short guys who don’t know how to flirt. They both start lusting over Chase thinking he’s a badass but they don’t hear him talking to the boat whilst cleaning, “Hey, baby. I missed you.”

They still have a few charters to get to know Chase but it seems like all Danni and Diana are focused on is his big deck energy.
